No, the whole thing as it needs to be protected so it wont go rusty. it may be that you should do the handle also.

And thanks, computer techies, for those repetitive answers. As the oldie questioners die off, new baby ones are being born...

ok cool.

it could do with a decent drain hole, the one it has looks to be punched and not drilled, any liquid inside can't escape, also this hole is about 50mm up the handle, i'd say it's for manufacturing or maybe expansion rather than to drain liquid out.

right, time to make a mess!

ha ha!

No need to turn your pan upside down oxy. Just put in some of that cheap oil you bought for your bread proving and wipe that around with a handi towel. Then find an implement that will fit down the inside of your handle (knife or chopstick) and poke an old, oil soaked rag down it and turn it about, as best you can. The outsides do not need seasoning because you are not cooking your foods on the outside now are you? Or, are you?

Lol. I have visions of you plastering mashed potato on the outsides of your pan and baking it in the oven, upside down, to make an 'interesting' upside down cottage pie.

When you season it with your bread, wait till you are on the lower temperature of the second half of the bake. No point in burning the oil in the pan and contaminating your bread, or better still, put it in once the bread comes out and the oven can be turned down.

Oh and one last thing. It isn't hard to dry your pan. Just pop it onto an element and 'cook' it dry at a really low heat setting for about 30secs. Residual heat in the pan from that will continue to dry it bone dry.

ok pan right way up, the handle is conveniently beaten flat on the end so no easy access, i'll possibly 'modify' this pan before too long, hacksaw + cordless drill = OXYPAN™!

i have some very thin oil for my oil stone which i'll use for the handle, it was cheap so i'll just pour it in, i've cleaned all the dishes etc away to make room, set up the pedestal fans too and got a mask!

fun times

cookessentials, Jan 11, 1:03am
it MUSt be vegetable oil!

cookessentials, Jan 11, 1:04am
never put an empty pan on the element, this is how they warp.

0800xford, Jan 11, 1:05am
yes, i'm only putting the other stuff into the handle, even i wouldn't eat that.
unless you are saying use the vegetable oil in there too?!

buzzy110, Jan 11, 1:20am
Not at lowest heat setting and not for 30secs.

cookessentials, Jan 11, 1:41am
Buzzy, it is the same as your cast iron cookware when you are starting off on the stove top. You always have something in the pan as you gently heat it. never have it on a high heat as the thermal shock will warp it. Just a gentle heat, with something in it. Also, do not dunk a hot pan into water as this will do the same.

buzzy110, Jan 11, 1:45am
Each to his own cooks. My pans have never warped and their lids still fit perfectly to this day.

0800xford, Jan 11, 1:49am
ok well i'm just going to do the whole thing inside and out with "soyabean oil"

at 3:30pm today the frying pan goes in, right after my loaf is done.

cookessentials, Jan 11, 1:52am
great. I am sure you know whats best.

0800xford, Jan 11, 2:48am
mmm it's baking right now, i can't wait to see what happens!

if i made a "too many cooks in the kitchen" joke right now would it lighten the mood a little?

davidt4, Jan 11, 2:56am
Oxford, you are delightful.

cookessentials, Jan 11, 3:42am
always light oxford..no moods here.

0800xford, Jan 11, 3:48am
my pan just finished baking, i leave it in the oven to cool?
it's out of the way in there, it changed colour slightly and has a slight yellow/gold look now.

0800xford, Jan 11, 3:51am
ha ha excellent

0800xford, Jan 11, 5:25am
oh far out! i just took a close look at the pan, it has a golden coating all over it like a glaze, this is going to smoke hard out when i first use it.

this is quite remarkable

cookessentials, Jan 11, 5:38am
Have you wiped it out?

elliehen, Jan 11, 5:44am
A new rooster in the kitchen has apparently sent the chook-house all a-flutter ;)

0800xford, Jan 11, 5:48am
i can't, it's baked on, it's a hard coating like a toffee apple.
remember i did the outside and the handle too, the WHOLE pan got the treatment.

elliehen, Jan 11, 6:02am
0800xford, better knock that 'oxy' on the head - it could lead to 'oxymoron' if you ever get on the wrong side of buzzy110 ;)
