SUBO guide me through the cooking part, what temp and how long/ fan bake or just normal and what shelf on oven do you put your tray. My oven is a bugga for burning the bums of things.i've had my oven for 6 years and still burn things grr.and if i turn it down nothing rises as it should.

winnie15, Apr 1, 10:24am
i looked back to page 1. you said 230 degrees for 10 mins.i'll give it a go and put it towards the top of the oven

subo, Apr 1, 8:19pm
wimmie15 I like to put baking paper on the tray to stop any burning and I don't use fan bake. The tray is a bit below half way down.

Sorry winnie. I hit the wrong key typing your name.

sporty32, Apr 1, 9:46pm
winnie15 my only option for my oven is fan bake.I put the oven at 210 deg, put scones in middle of oven and cooked a couple of minutes longer. They were amazing!

waaahhhhhhhh. mine didnt turn out nice and light. boohoo. they were a bit stodgy. i didnt use sr flour though coz i didnt have any, used plain flour with 1 tsp baking powder per cup of flour, plus lots of dates. mustve done something wrong. i will try again.

Yay, yummy scones today! this recipe is the best.our vet came for a visit today and stayed for lunch.I whipped these up as i'm due to get groceries so have very little food left in the house - I have to say that these were so easy and delicious.thanks heaps for the recipe!

kabbo, Apr 5, 1:36am
oh yes yes yes yaaaaay! light and fluffy scones. i made another batch and they have turned out perfect. very yum, and light. i think my problem before now i think about it, the mix was too wet and the oven not hot enough. so i'm not an idiot after all haha.

Great scones.(no milk) I have made scones a few times but was never very happy with them.I tried my mums new recipe and they come out great.
1.3C self raising flour. 2.1/2 t salt. 3.2T sugar.
Melt a wee bit of butter (30g)in microwave for 30 sec. and let cool.Top up to 1 1/2 cups with cold water from the fridge.Mix quickly with knife then tip onto floured board. knead lightly.cut out gently.Cook 15 mins at 200c.

SOUNDS ODD using water instead of milk. but they are real nice, my mum has used all sorts of recipes over the years and always made good scones.

Gluten/Dairy Free Idiot Proof Scones. I have just made this recipe with gluten free flour, rice milk and rice bran oil lite spread, making it both gluten and dairy free. They were fabulous and devoured by not only my food intolerant child but my other two children and there three friends here today. The other kids usually refuse to even try Joshies food so this is a real winner! Thanks heaps
