DEFINITELY an idiot proof recipe! I made them into cinnamon pinwheels and they are so easy and yummy. Very quick to make too :o) Thanks for sharing the recipe! The recipe I usually use is the one with cream in it, but it's very expensive and with all that cream, probably not that good for us, so am loving this new recipe!

Oh dear. I'm literally LOL here. Last time I made these (last Sunday) they didnt come out as well as they usually do. The scone jinx has finally got me I thought! Realised today as I was making them again, that I'd only used 3/4C of liquid instead of 1 3/4 Cup! lol. BUT THEY STILL TURNED OUT OK. just not as good as usual. They really ARE idiot proof!

Very cool thead and great Humor to May I ask how much dates do I add and sugar please! Oh do I soak the dates first thank you:~))

katalin2, Mar 23, 11:27am
I made some at the weekend- used a generous handful of dates- put them in a bowl with juice and zest of an orange and microwaved it for a couple of minutes. Easier to chop each date into 3 then. And added one heaped tablespoon of icing sugar to the flour- but you could add more if you like it sweeter.

Does it matter what type of milk is used. I have ALWAYS failed with scones and want to try this recipe, however I also want to ensure I use the correct milk!

sporty32 I just use standard blue top but think any would be ok.

sporty32, Mar 24, 12:57am
Thanks subo. I am very excited about making these!

tinzaroo, Mar 24, 6:37am
How didja go, sporty! Thanks to the poster above who suggested adding some icing sugar to the flour . I think that would make the cinnamon pinwheel ones just perfect! And thanks too for the tip about soaking dates - I have never thought of doing that. YUMMMM!

9plus9, Mar 25, 7:32am
how od I hunt out a thread! You all talk about the recipes in the threads but I cant see where you search for "scones' or slow cooker recipes, or soup etc etc!

subo, Mar 25, 8:47am
9plus9 I know what you mean and I have to agree but if you just ask for slow cooker ideas, lots of people will spring up with recipes for you. If a thread exists someone will bump it to the top for you to find.

Sweeet. I just couldn't resist making, I made cinnamon buns, and cheesy scones out of two batches. Pitty, no sampler's to taste test, everyone's in bed. Thankyou subo, you ROCK.

sylviasmother1, Mar 25, 11:27pm
gave this receipe to mother in law and just spoke to her and she was very happy with it :-)

buster31, Mar 26, 3:08am
the annoying thing about this recipe is. It took longer for the oven to heat up than to make the scone mixture. LOL.Have just made & eaten them.DIVINE!

buster31, Mar 26, 9:23am
although. I did get a bit of a baking powder aftertaste.Maybe adding a bit of sugar next time would help. But how much is a bit!

subo, Mar 26, 9:44am
If adding fruit. I put a dessert spoon. Just plain maybe a heaped tesp. With cheese 1/2 tesp salt.

I make these with the butter and egg, full to 2x cups with milk. About 4.5cups SR flour. Last weekend I rolled out to baking tray size (really big square) cut in half. On one half painted with melted butter, sprinkled brown sugar, cinamin, mixed spice, rolled up and cut into pinwheels.

bildasteve, Apr 1, 5:29am
And on other half Painted with tomato sauce (or chutney) added diced capsicum, grated cheese, herbs, garlic salt, rolled up and cut into pinwheels. Baked together. Very easy.
