used to be a cafe in napier in the 60's that sold wholemeal round 1/2's of scones, with mashed savoury egg and a slice of tomato on top....still to this day, i can see and taste them.....

I remember them....there is a similar recipe in my very old edmonds cookbook in the scones, gems and pikelets section called savoury scones.Make cheese scones and then make a mixture of 1 hard boiled egg, 1 small finely chopped onion, 1/4t curry powder, salt/pepper and spread on cold buttered cheese scones.

thats them #2. oh so yummy. wonder why cafes dont do those, certainly i would buy.
