The crispy batter mix would be used for all the fish you catch, lol

tarankyle, Nov 10, 8:39am
doh should have thought of that lol

tarankyle, Nov 10, 8:40am
good idea having it in a bottle, thanks for the tip :-)

dwebble, Nov 10, 9:44am
If you don't want to contend with eggs, you can use 1 cup self raising flour, 1/4-1/3 cup castor sugar, 2 tbsp custard powder. Put that in the bottle and add water to make into a batter and you have camping pikelets without egg etc.

Great idea. I would do this for everything.
Remember its your holiday as well.
Take cans of fish. Try dried meat, buy that at camping stores, great time to try something new.
Enjoy your trip.

Great idea thanks :-)I have a bid on a whistling kettle on here at the moment & have found some cool other camping gear. Just got to sell my listings to buy it al lol

Glamping., I so like this idea!.
In the States glamping is big. People rent a cabin in the woods with a spa, comfy beds, gorgeous outdoor furniture etc. People come in with amazing food and cocktails to serve them as they lounge around infront of the fire - nice

charlieb2, Nov 10, 7:48pm
lol.. thats Extreme Makeover Glamping, vintagekitty.. lol

tarankyle, Nov 11, 10:17pm
that would be soo nice if we didn't have the kids lolmanaged to pick up a new solor shower today for $12.95 from the plastic box & while I was there found a unbrella stand for $2.50 :-)

Sorry it has taken so long to get back a couple of very long work days-

In the Edmonds Cookbook

Crisp Batter;

1/4 cup cornflour
1/2 cup plain flour
1 tspn baking powder
1/4 tspn salt
1/2 cup milk (this is were you would put in 1/10th cup milk powder)

miz all ingredients then just add water until right consistency aprox 1/2 cup.

oh while I think of it. Sunny's as its called here or one of those $2 type shops have camping gear. i have picked up the egg carriers and a couple of other things for a lot less than what I would have paid at the camping specialist stores.
If you have a pot with a steamer, or a large pot that will fit a metal colander in, (so it works like a steamer), take this as a way to cook vegies, potatoes and root vege in bottom and peas or similar on top.

egg ringsso cool on bbqbut look in 2 dollar shop they have them

bm4, Nov 13, 6:44pm
we used to have roast rolled pork when camping on our hooded bbq the smell was devine wafting through the trees as we were coming back from the beach
and having a bit of a giggle while walking past other campers seeing what they were eating

liamjosh, Nov 14, 12:45am
Great idea, think we need to invest in a second one.Just out of interest, where do you purchase a chilly bin that works for longer and roughly how much is it worth?

charlieb2, Nov 14, 1:12am
liamjosh we got ours from Smith City....Cant remember how much.. not particularly cheap though.. (mind you chilly bins arent) think under $200)

Oh and I've just remembered Warehouse has them sometimes too...

tarankyle, Nov 14, 7:29pm
I just managed to win a auction off here for a chilly bin & a gas burner plus a few more little handy items :-)stung me a whole $16 lol

charlieb2, Nov 14, 7:39pm

I second that. It can also be used to bake fresh bread, if you're allowed a fire. We used to take away a home-made bread mix which just needed water adding. Once it's risen and kneaded, place it in the dutch oven, rise it again, then scrape out a place in the fire where there are good embers. Put the dutch oven in the embers and more embers on top of the lid. Bread will probably be cooked in about 20 minutes.... just keep checking. Cut off hunks and slather it with butter.....LOL
Another hint..... the cheap polystyrene (sometimes under $10) chillybins are better at keeping frozen food frozen than any fancy plastic covered chillybins, if they are well sealed. I buy them from my butcher. Yes, they can be broken with rough handling, but at that price they are good value.

tarankyle, Dec 1, 7:45am
thanks for the tips on the cheap torches :-)where we are going I do not think we are allowled fires, have to double check on that though.

tarankyle, Dec 2, 2:42am
Well I now have 2 choc cakes & choc brownies in the freezer all ready to take camping with us for snacks for the kids. will be making muffins & freezing them next wee.

ronnoc, Dec 2, 4:08am
