reposted from another thread ..... Melt 50g butter in a 2cup jug. Whisk in 1 egg. Make up to 2 cups with milk. Add to 3 to 4 cups of self-raising flour and mix with a knife. Oven at 230oC for about 10 mins. Hope you enjoy them! Yummo! ..... I warm the milk and add chopped dates and let it stand for an hour or so then make as above. I also don't use SF flour so its 2 tspns per cup and you want it to be a wet mix:) Enjoy!!

bump for stacey...

lindi4, Oct 29, 9:40pm
So once the mix is turned with a knife do you then give it a wee knead or turn it out onto floured bench and pat it into shape and cut it into what sized portions for baking????? ...I tried putting a cup over dough and cutting round shapes..not sure about height and size...that's all.

subo, Oct 30, 4:39am
No you don't have to knead. I just flop it straight out onto the baking paper on the tray with the knife. It is sloppy so spread out lightly with the knife. Keeping the edge of the knife clean, press cut lines one way then the other. As you would if making buns. They don't have to be separated as they can be broken or cut apart when cooked. My hands don't even touch them. However if you do want to separate them, wet fingers and a wet knife does the job. Anything goes with this recipe.....lol.

lindi4, Oct 30, 4:51am
Thanks for that.that's the way I like it!!! Also thanks Subo for dedicating so much of your time to the scone thread!!!!

subo, Oct 30, 5:02am
These would have to be one of the easiest things that just about everyone likes that can be made in 20 mins. Great as a loaf shape with cheese on top to slice too.....lol. So basic that it lends itself to pretty much anything as you can see what others have done through this thread.

charlieb2, Oct 30, 9:47am
subo.. thanks AGAIN... Thats a great way to do it. I've been putting the mix on the floured bench and patting out and cutting.. will try your technique next time I make them as scones.I made cheesy-mite scrolls on Tuesday with this recipe....

Big thanks to you charlieb2 for starting this thread. So fantastic that people come back to tell us what else can be done.

tracy-lee, Jan 4, 5:49am
hi i made these last night and these were the best, everyone loved them , thanks for posting :)

dgluved, Jan 4, 6:06am
Cant wait to try them. My best scone disaster - they were so rock hard the dog couldnt even bite into them and took them all outside one by one and buried them in the garden.

mindi1, Jan 4, 6:43am
These sound easy enough for even me . Just a few questions though. If I wanted sultana scones would I need to change the other ingredients at all! And do these go onto baking paper on the oven tray! Also, do you brush them with butter or milk before putting in oven to stop that floury top! Thanks.

jenna68, Jan 4, 7:35am
dgluved. PMSL, so funny, sorry but had to laugh.you better make these then, they are amazing!:o)

subo, Jan 4, 10:52am
mindi1 Just put in the sultanas and add a bit of sugar. Yes baking paper is a good idea and no brushing of milk or butter is necessary. The mix is quite wet.

mindi1, Jan 4, 5:54pm
Thanks Subo. Will try them!

idgit1969, Jan 4, 8:59pm
I made this recipe. last night. They are so yummy. My family really enjoyed them. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. I don't think I will go back to my old recipe. It's so much easier making this one!

flowingfree, Jan 8, 2:31am
Sorry if this has been already asked but had a quick skim through posts and couldn't see an answer.question is do I put them on a greased, floured or nothing on it oven tray. I am about to put them in the oven so thought I better check.

flowingfree, Jan 8, 2:35am
Just noticed#81 Subo saying to use baking paper so will use that.

charlieb2, Jan 8, 2:42am
I've done both baking paper and straight onto a good non=stick tray with no problems

flowingfree, Jan 8, 2:52am
Thanks charlieb2 Did you cut them into squares or spoonfuls. I have put the first lot in the oven now and put spoonfuls on the tray.

flowingfree, Jan 8, 3:08am
Ok first lot is done but they are cooked a little too much on the bottom otherwise look great and the mixture has made alot of scones. Can't wait for them to cool down so we can taste them.

flowingfree, Jan 8, 5:46am
Well I must say they passed the neighbours test as yummy and light. I had to hide some or the guys would have eaten them all lol. Oh and where I thought they had cooked too much on the bottom and would be hard.it wasn't at all.So Idiot scones gets a big tick from me.

waswoods, Jan 12, 1:42am
This is my recipe too but I usually use yoghurt, cream or sour cream. Now where is the lemonade/cream recipe please!
