YUM YUM SCRUMMY - where have they all gone? . . . Wow - that was the fastest, yummiest and easiest scones I've made. I substituted plain flour and 3 tsps of BP instead of SR flour - they turned out perfect. My boys (& myself & hubby) have completely demolished the batch. I'll be keeping this recipe for sure - many thanks for posting it :-)

thanks dlormans for your experience w/ the baking pwdr quantities b/c I hate the SR flour flavour. Some suggest 2 tsp per c of flour but we were always taught to use 1 tsp. I wasn't game to go BP alone b/c I thought mine was probably dodgy stock but will perservere. Cheers!

Perfect! Made a batch yesterday following the original recipe instructions. Added cheese to half and left other half plain. I thought they were perfect. No weird flavour from the self raising flour and to me they were definitely like a regular scone but a good scone.

I'm not sure who posted the above named recipe and I couldnt see it on the scone thread... So just wanted to say a HUGE thank you for the recipe. Think its the first time ever I've made scones that were light. So thank you, thank you, thank you. Will be making them again.

Idiot proof Scones. Here it is again for anyone.
Melt 50gms butter in a microwave jug. Let cool a little and break 1 egg into it and top up with milk to = approx 1 3/4 cups liquid. Mix well with a fork. Add by mixing with a knife to 3 large cups self raising flour. Bake 230 for 10 mins. You can add a bit of sugar and fruit or cheese or whatever you feel like.

little beauty! Better than jimmys lemonade one unusual with a egg, but thats good food, going to experiment with this one.

uli, Oct 7, 3:57am
subo Why do you mix the egg into butter and liquid with a fork, then change over to a knife for the flour? And do you mix the liquid into another (bigger) bowl where the flour is in?

subo, Oct 7, 4:15am
Hi uli The butter tends to set up a bit when the egg and milk are added so the fork keeps it blended together a little better. Using a dinner knife to mix liquid into flour cuts the liquid in keeping the mix light and not squashed down like dough. The flour is put in a big bowl, yes, and liquid added into it.

bumping so I can find the recipe again because I am going to make some

gjsimps, Oct 7, 5:31am
I used bowl and jug. melted butter slow 20per cent microwave, egg, milk butter comes to 3oomls(didnt have cup measures on my pyrex jug. so measured same. Used fork beating egg into butter, then into flour mixed with knife. very nice.
add fruit or just add a little suger.

janny3, Oct 7, 7:36am
Hate to admit it but we had a failure by using milk that was purchased from the dairy. They were light & fluffy scones but the milk was too sour. Won't do that again.

subo, Oct 11, 2:37am
Another tip too. The mixture is quite damp so I cut with a wet knife. Handle with wet fingers and don't knead with flour or flatten down too much.

Easy Peasy Scones I also tried this recipe and found it excellent! ! Both my hubby and I have never been able to make scones successfully before and were amazed at the outcome using this recipe. My mother-in-law will be proud of me ;-) - K & G.

grannypam, Oct 11, 6:56pm

Thank You... ... . I am not a good cook by any stretch of the imagination - hence my earlier request for unbaked slice recipes in this section BUT I gave the Idiot proof scones a go and lo and behold - something I can bake with success! ! ! They are delicious - I won't reveal how many I had for lunch! ! ! LOL
