reposted from another thread . Melt 50g butter in a 2cup jug. Whisk in 1 egg. Make up to 2 cups with milk. Add to 3 to 4 cups of self-raising flour and mix with a knife. Oven at 230oC for about 10 mins. Hope you enjoy them! Yummo! . I warm the milk and add chopped dates and let it stand for an hour or so then make as above. I also don't use SF flour so its 2 tspns per cup and you want it to be a wet mix:) Enjoy!

bump for stacey.

So once the mix is turned with a knife do you then give it a wee knead or turn it out onto floured bench and pat it into shape and cut it into what sized portions for baking! .I tried putting a cup over dough and cutting round shapes.not sure about height and size.that's all.

No you don't have to knead. I just flop it straight out onto the baking paper on the tray with the knife. It is sloppy so spread out lightly with the knife. Keeping the edge of the knife clean, press cut lines one way then the other. As you would if making buns. They don't have to be separated as they can be broken or cut apart when cooked. My hands don't even touch them. However if you do want to separate them, wet fingers and a wet knife does the job. Anything goes with this recipe.lol.

lindi4, Oct 31, 4:51am
Thanks for that.that's the way I like it! Also thanks Subo for dedicating so much of your time to the scone thread!

These would have to be one of the easiest things that just about everyone likes that can be made in 20 mins. Great as a loaf shape with cheese on top to slice too.lol. So basic that it lends itself to pretty much anything as you can see what others have done through this thread.

Well done charlieb2 They look great. So easy once you try aren't they. I like them best of all with strawberry jam and whipped cream.

scone I have made these "idiot proof" scones twice in the last 8 days, and today I added about 3 tblspns of sweetened condensed milk.WOWjust magic.

try it

charlieb2, Dec 6, 9:36am
Well. I made these again tonight to take as a plate. but made them into cheesymite scrolls instead. FANTASTIC. I cant believe I can make scones OVER AND OVER again successfully

Great you are still having fun with this. Another idea for you to try. If you like a thick pizza base.Spread it out with plenty of flour on a large baking tray and put whatever you like on top. Leave it a bit thicker around the edges.

jenna68, Dec 12, 5:30pm
subo, thats a good idea, will pinch that one, one easy way to fill up my teens over the hols for lunch and they can make their own!cheers, :O)

They come out great from the freezer as well.I have posted my Merangues again this year, and referred to them as Idiot Proof, as they just never fail. thanks
