Gluten free fish and chips????????

whistle, Nov 3, 7:25am
dose anyone know of a shop in hamilton and tauranga that sells gluten free fish and chips.

ferita, Nov 3, 7:40am
Chips shouldnt be a problem, you could find somewhere that will cook a wet fish fillet on the grill or something for you.

Might be easier to just do it yourself to be sure? I am sure it doesn't take longer to fry a fillet than to go down to the shops?

ring around. I know there is a fish & chip shop in Wanganui that does gluten free

Chips can be a problem if they are (frozen) ones that have a flour coating, done at the time of manufacture.

Your best bet would be to ring around and talk to the owners, bearing in mind contamination problems and the need to explain exactly what you require being a gluten intolerant person. Some places I can have the chips no problems, other places I react badly to the chips - I found out it was the flour coating on some chips that was the problem.Hope this helps :)

whistle, momma1, check out this site: http://www.glutenfreekiwi.com/find-gluten-free-in-new-zealand.html

there is a place on cnr of Grey st and Brookfield street, in Hamilton East called Fush and Chups and they do gluten free batter if requested on their fish, the only problem i see if if you have a serious allergy to the gluten and there is gluten transfer in the oil used for the frying. My 6 year old daughter doesnt seem to react though to the food from there and she is Coeliac

http://www.gftreets.co.nz/ these guys do battered fish which tastes exactly like proper takeaway fish. You could cook that along with some chips at home? When out I just stick to chips or some other form of takeaways.

That website above shows where in your area would have the gf items :)
