Mashed spuddies

Almost bought a new SS spud masher this morning at Urban Loft ~ I have one but it is silicon and beds when under pressure ~ but didn't. So pleased I didn't. Have just finished watching this morning's Jo Seagar Cooks programme on Mysky and saw her using a potato ricer. Looked brilliant. And have just scored one for $12. 50 on a TM buynow. Fantastic.

LOL. I could have used it the other night when my food processor failed me and I was trying to mash mushy peas!

I love my potato ricer. Wouldn't mash spuds without one now. Makes a huge difference. My d-i-law asked me the other night "Why is it called a 'ricer"? I couldn't answer her - anyone know?

My guess is because when the potato is pushed through it comes out on the other side looking similar to grains of rice, well... . . with a bit of imagination.
