Apparently they're green gage (spelling?) and our poor tree is straining under the weight of fruit - although won't be ready for awhile yet, can anyone help with any recipes for me to try please?

You lucky person. Green gage make the best plum jam. Wish I could get some from somewhere. I live in Hamilton and do not see any around here. Used to get them inTauranga, bur am unable to travel except by bus.
