Swiss Apple Torte
Qtr. cup soft butter l cup sugar l egg l cup self raising flour half teaspoon baking powder half teaspoon nutmeg and ginger Qtr. teaspoon baking soda half teaspoon salt and ground cloves Three tart cooking apples, cored, peeled and cut into slices Vanilla Ice-cream and or Whipped cream
In a large bowl cream butter sugar add egg and beat until light and fluffy. Sift in flour and the next four ingredients (spices etc) beat thoroughly. Gently stir in apple slices until all seem to be covered in batter, turn into buttered tin, (9" loose bottom) spread evenly. Bake one hour at 350. Cut while warm and top with heaps of fattening ice-cream and whipped cream. Yum. Note: Batter is very thick when you mix - I have made this for 30years and always a favourite especially with the men.

Lol - you can tell from the oven temp it is an old recipe, I guess 175deg celsius would be right.

I sometimes get some puff pastry sheets, cut one into 4 or 6, place an apple slice in the centre of each, sprinkle some cinamon and sugar over it, add a few sultanas and then bake them for a little while. the pastry will puff up around the apple slice and is sort of a quick struddle :) lol
