I love mine, however, Denby and the American Lodge do great ones too and not as expensive as Le Creuset.

duckmoon, Jul 23, 11:53pm
I love my le crueset and waited until I could afford the real thing.

Wellington has the department store kirks, they have them for half price (usually)

kiwiscrapper1, Jul 24, 1:11am
Mine is in the oven as I type! I love it and use a lot, I do find it cooks really quickly and cook on a lower temp than any recipe says to.

cookessentials, Jul 24, 4:13am
The Stevens one definately will not last 40 years.that is the difference!

I bought one before Christmas thinking I'd never need another. Six months later I did buy another, but only because I'd found so many uses for my first one - and I couldn't contemplate using anything else - that I frequently needed it for two things at once.
AMAZING investment. They each cost me, more or less, 3 weeks rent, but as I'll have them forever (and I mean forever. I read on a forum once about a woman whose house burnt down and the only surviving item was her Le Creuset dutch oven) so I figure they're really exceptional value for money. Plus, they're amazingly easy to clean. You take it out of the oven after you cook a stew or a chili or whatever, and it looks like a nightmare. But the whole lot just wipes right off. It's miraculous.
The best roasts ever, exceptionally tasty stews and soups . they're fantastic for searing. Some people make bread in them, I've not tried. I do, however, do all of my jam-making in my ones. I'd never be without them now!
Oh, and, in between, I did try out one of the Briscoes brand knockoffs. It was horrible. The lid didn't fit properly and it tarnished after one day's use. Took it back, retrieved my money, and bought LC#2.

Do they work on induction hobs!

cookessentials, Jul 24, 2:04pm
They should do, but do the magnet test. Our cast iron Dutch ovens hold a magnet.

The first one I ourchased was too small.I went to a sale, wanting a 22inch.but they only had 20 and 24 inch pots left

But due to a medical issue, I don't have much strength in my hands and was worried that I wouldn't be able to carry a 24 inch when full.

I love the one I purchased, but it was smaller than I needed for many things.

Started saving again, and purchased a 28 inch. It is fantastic. So fantastic when hubby applied for a job in Europe and we were going to go with only four suitcases, I knew that my 28 inch was going to Europe too.

I could cook on the stove top, and the oven with it, and I thought it would work as a frying pan too. If I had only one pot, that was going to be it

I have fry pans too, one is very large and deep the other is smalland great for just wanting to fry off onions or an egg or two love them all, I got them originally in kirks sale and saw they had a few 'sets' extremely cheap but you had to be there at 7am yesterday to get them! ot but they also had my perfume for $30 instead of $230 :-0(

One of my best buys on TM was a set of Le Creuset pots, pick up only in Oamaru (2 hrs away) for $50.00 I hit buy now that fast, sent an email to make sure they were happy with that price. Then straight into the car, LOVE them. But gosh they are heavy. A couple of years ago, I sold 3 of the pots have keep the small and large ones,

cookessentials, Jul 25, 4:58pm
karenz, no doubt, that sounds like a Le Crueset. They are often yellow or orange ( back in the late 70's, early eighties)

katalin2, Jul 25, 7:02pm
Thanks cookessentials but I would really like to hear from someone who is using Le Cruset casseroles/pans on induction hobs- I am aware if it holds a magnet to the bottom it works.

twindizzy, Jul 25, 9:38pm
Hi cookessentials I have just picked myself up a Le Crueset 28cm deep fry pan with lid. I believe it has the new phenolic handle and knob on lid. Do you trust then for oven transfer!:P

cookessentials, Jul 25, 9:51pm
Not quite sure what you mean! Do you mean for oven temp on the handle! or touching the handle when it comes out of the oven!

cookessentials, Jul 25, 9:53pm
here is a youtube demo that may be of help.

Hijacking here . sorry

My budget simply doesn't stretch to Le Crueset, despite that being my heart's desire. I popped into The Warehouse to follow up on suggestions made here . but could only find porcelain casserole type dishes, not enamel element-suitable ones.Help!

I have something similar bought at Stevens. Quite often on sale, got mine for about $60.

duckmoon, Sep 3, 5:49am
I have one - same colour but 28 cm

We were looking to go overseas to live, with four suitcases and nothing else. I was going to find the room (or rather weight) to take it with me.it would have been my only saucepan.

I love love love it. Purchased mine for half price

racheee, Sep 3, 9:07pm
Quick question - Jamie Oliver always uses a heavy saucepan that looks like it is enamel on the outside and it has a lid -does anyone know where to get one of these! Thanks

tehenga288, Sep 4, 2:56am
Stevens had them at the weekend from $40 to $70 depending on size and frying pans too.

jhan, Nov 23, 4:18pm
I've been hankering for one of these especially now that I have to make the shopping budget go further, however it seems like too much money. Would anyone vouch for the taste of casserole's made in these!

poppysinger2, Nov 23, 4:31pm
I have one, bought at a garage sale and it is wonderful ! If you can afford it go for gold , will last a lifetime and also your kids lifetime ! Does not affect the flavour of food in any way and can be used on cooktop , in theoven or even in a pinch as a dutch oven in the embers of a fire .
