Alcohol and Coeliacs

Hi there,

I have been scouring the night for a definitive answer but haven't seem to have found one.

I'd like to know if coeliacs need to avoid bourbon and whiskey, or if, because they are distilled, they are safe to consume?

There's a lot of conflicting info out there!

NZ Coeliac Society state Whisky is gluten free because although it is made from barley the distillation process gets rid of the gluten. Here is a quote from their site "Distillation and redistillation further reduces carry over of gluten into the final product and renders the products including whisky gluten free. (Campbell, 1988)."
