Coops32 if you use any washing powder recipe containing soap; clean your machine once a month with a hot wash and half a cup of real dishwasher powder to cut through all the soap fats that will build up in your machine.I use 2 scoops(small new concentrate coldpower) and 4 (new sml scoops) of washing soda dissolved into a 2L bottle and use 1 X 250ml cup per full load in my 5.5kg machine. Works a treat. Though the perfume is not as strong.Because it's still using soap designed for washing machines I dont have to bother with the hot wash business. this gives me 8 loads for my two scoops of powder and 4 scoops of soda.

#70 satisfire; it's okay to use on wood and such but because the soda componant is caustic it can "eat" some finishes if you leave it sitting on there; so if you do use it simply spray on and wipe off right away. (this doesn't apply to wooden floors because they are usually polyurethaned not varnished and much more able to withstand cleaners.) I have seen a post saying to mix cooking oil with vinigar to polish wood, and one day I made a cloth damp with white vinigar then put maybe half a teaspoon of oil on the cloth and used that to clean the wooden veneer table. It came up just like it does with pledge. I'm uncertain as to the exact quantites to make it up ahead of time I'm sorry.

#71;Ksr Eucalyptus oil is renound for its antiseptic qualities as well as for what ever reason it is excellent at breaking down sticky substances such as glue, sticky labels etc. This is why it's used. I halve the amount I use in the mix because I don't like the smell of it much, but I've also gotten used to it. Lemon oil would be fine if that's what you prefer to use for the fragerance factor.I found I made a bulk batch up and have two spray bottles, one normal for all sorts of cleaning; and one with 100ml of bleach extra in the squirty bottle for hard surfaces such as benches and bathroom; as it gives it that extra Oomf to really cut the crud. As bleach is an antibacterial agent also; one could definately leave the eucalyptus oil out of that one if one wanted to.

finally mbr2 if youre not adverse to chemical cleaners I'd actually recommend just normal bleach, and for harder scrubbing "chemico" a pink creme clenser. Once you get it good, a bleach version of the spray and wipe as mentioned above should keep on top of it. It does in my bath tub/formica type shower stall at any rate.Other products on the market are de-solve it, and c-thru for dissolving water spots. I never found Bam products to be any better than others. You could always test patch a little area with oven cleaner too. I've done that before when cleaning a shower that was dreadful when we moved house.

Bumping.... Also to clear up confusion over Westies Air Freshner. I looked up the fact sheet on good morning and the quantities are 70mls meths, 20mls water and 10mls water. Its more of a sanitiser than air freshner which is why the meths content is so high. It still sounds good though and I'm going to give it a go tomorrow.

ange164, Sep 9, 8:15pm
hey loafer is that 20ml vinigar? I'm guessing.

Household Cleaner. This solution lasts 4ever.
*1 litre water
*

200ml vinegar
*

40ml detergent
*

40ml eucalyptus
*

2 dspns washing soda

Mix all ingredients together & it's ready to use. Put 60ml of solution in warm water to wash your floors. Fill a spray bottle & use it to clean yr table, benches & bathroom.Household cleaners used to cost $80 per month, now just buy detergent every 3 mnths, vinegar once a yr @ $1.50, washing soda every 18 mnths @ 98c & eucalyptus oil once every 8 mnths @ $3.50 - a saving of $880 a yr.

I would love to know if...... anyone can give me a way to make soap powder that would be suitable for someone with cronic ezeama? (sp)
She is not allowed to use soaps and we are not allowed to use soap powder or hang you clothes outside. Would something to at least feel the clothes are getting clean and I am way past hand washing her stuff and all the rubbing.

From Lyn Webster on the Good Morning show, does anyone have the toothpaste recipe? It'd be interesting to give that a go too.

Bumping for Beagle12 ..

twinsforus, Oct 10, 7:50am
jugglingfun......I know of someone who gets a special washing powder on prescription from her doctor as she has extremely sensitive skin (plus a wee one with excema). Check with your doctor, or even local chemist to see if they have it, and if its suitable. (sorry I don't know the name of it).
Love the thread!! Am waiting for my vinegar to "double" then I'll be making the spray n wipe recipe, finally remembered to get eucalyptus
oil!! Have been using the mix without it...works fine, but with 3 little boys with grubby fingers, needs a bit more kick!

Eucalyptus oil - can it be bought in bulk anywhere??It is so dear to buy anywhere.I bought some frm Australia a few years back, 200 mls for around $7-8 i think.I cant seem to find the big bottles here.

jcsolgier, Oct 25, 1:00am
bump bump this is great. For cleaning outside/inside windows mix about 2/3 cup meths with half a bucket of hot/warm water. put a towel below window to catch drips and use a squeegy mop to scrub them (I bought mine from the warehouse for $13, exactly like the windscreen ones they use at the gas station) wipe the rubber blade dry between squeegy's and your windows come up beautifully

skippie1, Jan 3, 10:56am
Supermarket like New World sells Eucalyptus oil.

schnauzer11, Jan 3, 12:03pm
Cheaper if you use grated Sunlight soap, instead of Lux.

I have polished wooden floors and have had Woodmagic to wash and shine the boards. Was told to put turps onto a damp cloth only to clean varnished floors but the smell is too strong.Friend makes up her own home made laundry brew mix from pure soap, borax, water and not sure what else. She said its ok for polished floors but was wondering if there's something that can be added to the mopping bucket which also shines the floor as it cleans!TIA
