You can buy a shower "Scourer" it has a sponge on one side and a plastic scourer on the other.I have used this with great success in the past just using bathroom soap on it. Run it over the bar of soap and then make sure your glass has a little water on it and then scrub. hose off. comes up great with no fancy cleaners.

this is a Clothes Softener a group friend uses. She makes up it and uses it all the time on the farm.
6 C. warm water
3 C. white vinegar
2 C. hair conditioner(supermarket brand bottles can be bought for around $2 - $5)

Mix in an emptied bottle (You can use a bleach bottle w/ the label removed) and voila that's it!

Use a downy ball and fill almost to the top and throw it in your washer.

You CAN NOT smell the vinegar -
This makes the clothing soft.

She's used different types of suave http://www.suave.com/ conditioner and so far none have stained or discoloured the clothes but I'll stick to those large bulk bargain bottles of supermarket conditioner.
THANKS

oops should I say i got that recipe from budgets thread, and was posted by trader named KOB, and she has some fantastic ideas, Where do you get Borax from never heard of it, can you make up the dishwashing powder beforehand in big batches!

aimeelouwhite, Jul 1, 10:10am
awesome thanks.keep em coming !

katiebee, Jul 1, 10:13am
I asked my mum about borax as i had never heard of it either. She said its like a crystal type thing so if not in the cleaning isle in the supermarket, try mitre 10 maybe!

Fabric Softner I use white vinegar rather than brand fabric softners, does the same thing but a whole lot cheaper!
It also kills bacteria, brightens colours, reduces lint, eliminates soap residue and reduces static cling! Woop woop!

good old sunlight soap will do a decent job of cleaning a lot of stuff. Grated into the sink for dishes; washing machine for clothes; bucket for the floors. NOTE: if you use soap in your washing machine (even lux flakes) clean it once a month with an empty hot wash and 1/4 c of dishwasher powder; or the proper stuff to clean the machine from appliance stores,(not sure if you can get it from supermarkets.)or 1 c vinigar and 1 c washing soda. If you don't, the soap scum builds up in your machine and will eventually cause problems.

katiebee, Jul 1, 9:01pm
Also if you use re-washable nappies for your baby, don't use sunlight soap or lux flakes, it ruins their 'magical' properties!

Cleaning spray-from a previous poster 1 ltr water, 200ml vinegar, 40ml dish detergent, 40ml eucalyptus oil, 2 desertspns washing soda crystals. Mix together, put is spray bottle and use or add 60ml to bucket water and use for floors. It's amazing! I have used on all kitchen/bathroom surfaces, windows, mirrors, walls, it's fantastic. Can also use on clothes as stain remover :)

don't know who posted this originally sorry. OVEN CLEANER
I was given this a few years ago and it seems to work well. 3 TBSP Baking Soda, 1 TBSP Vinegar, 1 CUp Water. Mix together and wipe over a cold oven. Heat oven to 200c and leave to cool. Wash with soapy water.

Does Vinegar in the washing not leave the clothes smelling funny! Very keen to try this one!

rosielee3, Jul 3, 7:47am
Also. what are washing soda crystals! Im a but niave in this department!

ange164, Jul 3, 8:24am
vinigar doesn't leave a funny smell. I dont know why, logically it should, but it doesnt. I don't know what washing soda is technically, it's not a soap, but it dissolves into water and then the water cleans stuff better. You can buy it for about $3 or $4 from the supermarket in a 1kg box. Instructions on how to use it are on the back of the box. It's harsh on your hands if you make a strong mix and don't wear gloves. And you shouldn't use it strong on wood/varnish/or paint.

where do you get eucalyptus oil from! Thanks so much for all your ideas guys I'm going to try these when I run out of the commercial products I've got! Here's one I got off the simple savings website tonight that I'm going to try tomorrow cause I've run out of diswashing liquid tonight! It's supposed to be great as a handwash and for dishes so I'll give it a go!
Grate 1 bar of sunlight soap into a 2l container. 1/2 fill with boiling water. Tip 1/2 into another 2l container. Fill them both up with boiling water and leave to cool. They will thicken up and when cold tip into your hand wash pump containers and use for hands and also for dishes!
Though I'd give it a go - for the cost of a bar of soap it's worth a try!

Is it possible to replace the vinegar ingredients in these recipes with freshly squeezed lemons!

nanasee1, Jul 4, 9:24pm
Eucalyptus Oil I get mine in the supermarket, it is much cheaper there than the chemist. It is usually by the bandages etc. if you don't like the smell you can substitute another essential oil like lemon or lavender. I use less ecualyptus than the recipe as I find the smell too strong, it doesn't affect the cleaning properties.

rosielee3, Jul 4, 11:40pm
Salt is also great added to the washing machine if you have brought new clothes that the dye may run from (blacks, darks jeans.etc) stops the colouring from coming out!

note for skelf71 Re: soap Don't be surprised if that recipe doesn't foam up. It will still get things clean, but if you want that foam and your recipe doesn't give it; add a tablespoon of dishwash to your soap dispenser too and mix it in. That should be enough to get that foamy texture.

hi westie, bit confused about the amounts i also have dogs in side only they are chi's and with everything just shut up most of the time in winter, want to use something economical and fresh to brighten the house. can u be a bit more specific in the amounts to use please. dying to have a go at this. thanks

ange164, Jul 15, 6:17am
don't know where westi is but that's how I read it too. Doesn't sound quite right does it! In the mean time, if you sprinkle baking soda on your carpets and leave it for half an hour to an hour (or while you go out is good) then vacuum it off, that should help with the smells.
