Help with roast beef

i have a roast - meat rolled up and tied with string, do i put it in the fry pan first to seal it before roasting?

yes , or put it in an extremely hot oven like 250 then turn heat right down as soon as you close door is another way

Thanks I'm off to check the weight and fattiness of it, yum can't wait until tonight as it is so cold and miserable here in Hamilton today.
