Omigosh - have discovered something so simple yet so easy and yummy and had to find a gluten free thread to share!Forgive me if already posted!
I'm not into deep fried foods or anything, but if you ever feel like a quick banana fritter kind of dessert, then simply cut a banana in half then length wise.Wrap in a rice paper sheet and cook both sides quickly in hot oil.Reminds me of those mcdonalds turnover things with the crispy outside.Serve with whipped coconut cream for dairy free or icecream.Enjoy!

Hi im just starting out on this ceilac way of life in reguards to my daughter. She has been diagnosied with ceilac's and is having a biopsy next week. What im wondering is about contamination.Ive read on here different people using products from bakeries etc.I wonder how it is possible to make gluten free products in such an environment. Is it possible! Also butcherys.Do they have certain areas where they add the flavourings and breadcrumbs and not the rest of counters.Am i over thinking!I have started stocking up on some products and utensils , frypan etc that is just for daughters use and want to have a good understanding before we go gf and as she is seven also dont want her to feel to 'left out ' from everyone else though also want to stress to her that she has to be completly gf for the rest of her life.I know some people allow their child to have the odd gluten treat but i dontthink that is the answer as the child could get used to that idea and do it for the rest of their life.My daughters symptoms are bloating, gas, sore stumochs and feeling sick. When i took her to the doc he told me that he didnt think the blood tests would show anything up but would do them to rule out gluten intolerance and ceilac's, then had to get us back in to tell me she had ceilac's.
Does the biopsy give any other ideas of any other intollerances to other foods!

Hi ,the biopsy is just to take a look at the state of the villi in the gut ,I don't believe that any observations are made regarding other intolerance's.Pack and Save do a good range of GF sausages and yes once on a GF diet it has to be followed religiously with no deviation

I know this is kinda off the topic.but sorta on it too.we cook a meal at Ronald McDonald House a couple of times a year for the families that stay there while their children are in Starship, and at the last one we did a couple of weeks ago I had chocolate brownie for the dessert.I took along a gluten free for my husband and kids to eat after we had finished, and ended up sharing it with 2 little girls who sadly told me they couldn't have the regular one. What a buzz. Now next time I go I will be sure to take gf alternatives.
If anyone wants a great place to support the House takes home baking that they freeze for those who live in.Gluten free baking would be greatly appreciated.

gosh thats tough its hard enough to be gluten free but no eggs .i would be doing some reading on vegan recipes, find the ones that could work for you, and add meat or fish etc when you want. i know i like to have what i call my norty treats, i used to overcook basmati rice a wee bit so i could get it a bit glugey, so i didnt need an egg to bind it, i then would add my flavours and vege to pan fry small cakes - so one combo i do is green curry paste and grated courgette and copped spring onions. another was paprika abd grated carrot and courgette, so i would go for the flavours he likes, another i make it spring rolls, but i use rice paper rolls and fold to enclose them spray coat with oil and bake in oven to get the crispy.

Hi all
I need some help regarding GF.Hubby & I do not have any gluten issues but we are having some friends over for a BBQ on the weekend and she is gluten intollerant. What we normally have a for a BBQ is steak, suasages, prawns, fish, onions just grilled on the BBQ and then I do a basic coleslaw (cabbage, carrot, spring onion, capsicum and no dressing) and a potoato salad (normally just boiled spuds with some commercal potato salad dressing on it and sour cream).I don't know anything about gluten intollerance so hope you might give me an idea on how that menu looks from her point of view.I was also thinking of just doing a fresh fruit salad and maybe pav and brandy snaps with cream. Is that ok!
Thanks so much - I want to make some effort to cater for her so any suggestions and tips would be really appreciated.
Regards
Raewyn

What about oats! What’s the general consensus with oats and celiac disease or gluten intolerances!

I just got diagnosed on Friday and popped out to Bin Inn, there is some gluten free pasta in bags that is just over $2 each. I brought some and have had a few times and find it tastes just as good as normal pasta.I also recommend checking out the other range at Bin Inn I found them to be very helpful with lots of information that wasn't too overwhelming and a good range of gluten free foods that weren't expensive.

As my above post, was diagnosed with Coeliac Disease on Friday, knew it had been coming for the last 10 years or so, also have Type 1 Diabetes so it just means more changes to my diet. Felt very over whelmed with the news of a gluten free diet as being so close to xmas the dietition and specialist can't see me till February so have walked away from my gps feeling a little unsure of what to do. Have looked a round a bit on the net but it is slightly overwhelming with all the information and not being sure if it is all accurate etc.Went to Bin Inn found that helpful and prices cheaper but would like to get to know some others who have Coeliac that can guide me with tips and what not. I am 31 female from New Plymouth. Thanks in advance to anyone who can lend some tips and support :) Hope everyone is doing well
