Christmas Ham?

stitchbird3, Dec 8, 1:55pm
We were given a 10kg ham. It's enormous, so decided to cut into it 4 days ago as it was obviously going to last long past Christmas. Now I'm worried that it will go off, even before the big day. I have it in a ham bag, rinsed in vinegar water, but does this keep hams fresh, and if so, for how long. Is there anything else I can do to keep it fresh?

Freeze what you don't want. it's all good, I freeze hams every year

Is it cooked? It will keep, You probably would have been better to cut it just before the big day though

Thanks, rainrain, yes it is cooked. I thought of freezing 1/2 but thought it might end up sort of watery when thawed. But better than wasting it.

If you defrost it slowly, in the fridge it doesn't seem to come out watery. A friend then glazed hers in the oven & it was beautiful.

I was wanting to know exactly that (re freezing hams) so thanks stitchbird, rainrain and samanya. Will go ahead and buy one now I know for sure they're 'freezerable'. :)
