Hi, does anyone know where I can get Hansells Gravy Browning (Parisian Browning Essence)? Thanks

Haven't seen it for quite a while in the supermarket, but I found Queen Parisian Browning Essence which is the same sort of thing, perhaps not quite as dark brown as the Hansells one. Can't remember if it was with the gravy products or with the Queen baking flavourings and colours.

I bought some Hansells a few month ago from New World. Was surprised to see it on the shelf after an absence of some years.

Ummm - never seen it - but why do you not make "normal gravy"?

Yes, I purchased a bottle recently as well, but cannot think where I purchased it. Sometimes it is in the gravy section and sometimes it is where you would find Oxo cubes etc. I don't think it disappears for years but I think it is one of those things Hansells make every now and again. I note it never has a use by date on the bottle so you can keep it just about forever.

Bought mine in CD not that long ago, it was in gravy aisle. I've also seen it in the baking aisle too.

I have always made my own, like this

So just sugar basically? Thanks lilyfield that's a great link. A gravy that tastes nice is a good thing in itself but if it doesn't have eye appeal to begin with it can be a little disappointing overall.

Nice to know that there's such a cost effective and made at home way of resolving things.

Where did you find this? Mums run out and is about to make fruit cakes, she had some she bought over from Oz but hasn't been able to find the Queen one and she reckons she couldn't find anything in Countdown (Whangarei). I'm in Christchurch so maybe I can get it here?

When I couldn't find it last year and was told by C/D staff that it had been discontinued I rang Hansells to confirm. It had indeed been discontinued but they still had some in the warehouse so kindly sent me 4 bottles to distribute to my family. It may well be back in S/Mkts if enough people have protested.

I emailed Hansell's a few weeks ago after fruitlessly searching many different Supermarkets shelves.
Prompt answer - Small retail packs are a discontinued line.
However they are still producing the product in 2 litre catering packs and these are sold at places like Gilmours etc.
2 litres would last me over 20 years

Another simple solution for a brown (and tasty) gravy is to add some soy sauce.
