Excellent for casseroles or curry - just cook slowly for a longer period (2 1/2 to 3 hours) than you would a more expensive cut.An easy one is meat cut up, floured and browned, sliced onion and crushed gralic browned.Cover with some beef stock and add add a good blob of any tomato or fruit chutney you have, a slurp of wine if you have some and any vegetables you have to hand.Mushrooms, leeks, carrots, etc.If you are going to use frozen vegetables just add them a couple of minutes before serving.Potato an dkumara are best added an hour before the end so they don't go slushy. A bouquet garni (bayleaf, parsley stem and good piece of thyme tied together) adds good flavour but if you don't have fresh herbs add your choice of dried ones.Season at the end but watch the salt if you use powdered stock or commercial salt other than salt-free. Thicken with a little cornflour or instant potato flakes if it is not thick enough for you.

Just leaving out the cumin from a recipe works great..
