Try this. Wash rice till water clears, then cover the washed rice with water up to the first joint on your finger (i.e. from the top of the rice) Works with any amount of rice. I learnt this 45 years ago from a Japanese student that was staying with us, and it has never failed. 10 years ago I showed an Indian woman this simple method of measuring water for rice and now she plus all her family in India use this method every day.
