Shall I buy a mixer beater or a food processor?

My old Kenwood Chef is on it's last legs so can't decide if I should buy another similar mixer or go for a food processor. What would be the advantage of having a food processor instead of a mixer beater machine or do I really need both!Any recommendations appreciated.

Depends on what you use if for mostly! I don't use my food processor much but use my mixer a lot.

If you do loads of baking.creaming butter and sugar etc., get a mixer, if you make lots of pastry, coleslaw, chopping etc., get a food processor.I use my food processor loads, and a hand held mixer for creaming butter etc.

If you can afford it, buy a Magimix - it's the Rolls Royce of food processors but worth every penny it cost me.and at the end of the day.you get what you pay for. After years and years of making do without a food processor I treated myself to a Magimix and WOW! It's a dream machine! My favourite kitchen appliance!

I believe food processors don't mix things like egg white mixes - ie pavlovas - and cakes quite as well as a mixer.I replaced my old Kenwood with a kMix (red, of course) and it's amazingly good, an even better mixer than the old one.It also has an intermittent fold setting to fold in flour.LV Martin have a 20% off sale at the moment, that's where I got mine a year ago.

If you can afford only one out of a mixer or a processor, you need to decide what you will mostly use it for and get the appropriate one.

I have both but used a food processor most as make pastry in it and a lot of curries so use it to chop garlic, onion, ginger etc.
I usually only use big mixer for pavlova, big cakes etc otherwise use a hand held beater :)
