Yep, I find it VERY hard to believe that a couple had never made pastry.Even *I* (as a true beginner cook, who does very little 'baking') have made my own pastry!I have to think they were fibbing, to 'talk themselves down' - seriously!

This seasons bakers, apart from Esme, have been pretty bad. I'm sure they can all bake at home but surely at this level and for a show like this, the person would be expected to at least have made pastry, baked a cheesecake, made bread! It seems like the people they choose are not chosen on their abilities. A work friend was saying that they knew someone (think it was their sis in law) who made it to the auditions but it wasn't based on ability or experience, more on how well you can play to the camera or the dynamic between the contestants (think Rose and Hayley). This makes perfect sense to me. They seem to have chosen the cross section eg the boys (who lets be honest are decidedly average), the young girl, the rock chick bitch, the mumsy type and finally the actual only one who can bake well (Esme). I'm sure Emily and Alice are ok at home too but they don't have Esmes experience from what I can see. What a joke! However I still watch it.

Yeah i agree with you about the hints section, that is why bakers watch this type of show.What about Chelsea's best baking tips segment!I am happy to do this!lol! For the right price.;-)

I thought we only saw the cooling rack AFTER it was knocked on the bench, not before!
It's unlikely that Hamish left the rack right on the edge of the bench surely, but I could imagine that he put it squarely secure and the lady accidentally bumped it with enough force to push it forward and the contents on to the floor.

I loved todays episode. First episode where everyone had cooking ability. The partners and brother coming in were a nice touch. Shame Hamish went home and I'm pulling for Esme to win the competition.
Also Dean and Julia are having their own show called The Sugar Club which will be screening on Food TV from Sunday the 10th. Looks like fun.

@214 making fun of people's appearances, particularly if there may be an underlying medical condition, is pretty low. Judge the baking, not the contestants physical appearance.

Esme you did it again keep going hard you will be NZ hottest home baker. I loved that they were making wedding cakes but I didnt like that the partners helped them, I would of liked to see what they could do them selves decorating wise.
