I'm sure she would have, but surely there's more skill in cooking a cake within that time limit! Those that did cakes had less time for shaping anddecoration.

sarahb5, May 3, 5:49pm
The cake and decoration were the challenge - it wasn't just about either component - what other sort of fancy-pants cake would make a 6 year old girly-girly happy as much as the cupcake creation! For kids it's all about the icing/decoration - not the cake inside/underneath.

The skill is in meeting the brief. The cake AND decoration were the brief - it wasn't just about either component - what other sort of fancy-pants cake would make a 6 year old girly-girly happy as much as the cupcake creation! For kids it's all about the icing/decoration - not the cake inside/underneath.

As a cupcake cake goes, I thought the pull apart idea was fun and for sure, little ones would love it. But I don't think they should have been given cupcakes as an option because the skill level is different. But hey, that's just my opinion!

How ridiculous is that taste teste.Firstly, self-raising flour is not a single ingredient in itself but a combination of multiple ingredients.Lemonade consists of multiple components - although it would be hard to emulate the flavour of commercial lemonade in a home kitchen (lemonade, of course, also includes water, which was listed as another ingredient, so if you got lemonade by default you've also got water.)

edit: rofl - edited to change the typo "taste teste". That would make for an interesting cupcake.

My pick of Esme did well I also liked the look of the 50th cake that lady was my 2nd pick to make it to the finals. I felt sorry for the lady haley is it that made the block cake when that cow laughed at her cake, but she had the last laugh when she got her ass kicked off that disaster of a cake she made.
all in all The winner was spot on and the loser was spot on as well. Go hard Esme your my pick for the winner of NZ Hottest home baker.

LOL - that is soooooooooooooooooooo funny. Thanks for the laugh. Been the best thing about Hottest Bakers so far.I have been taping it and FF past the bits I don't want to watch.Consequently I acutally only watch about 10mins in all.

also, as a home baker, you make a cake for a specific person.

Ben make a cricket cake - there are some boys who do like sport, but don't like cricket.

In the same way, if Esme is making a cake for her 16 year old niece then a great carrot cake is a great cake - for that person

i agree with your comment about SR flour. I was sitting at home thinking "so, there will be flour, will be it SR flour, or will baking powder a separate ingredient"

And sugar. if you write sugar - you get a mark. If you write white sugar, well that isn't caster sugar. Hmmmm

falcon-hell, May 3, 8:40pm
dean is a pratt.

miri_s, May 3, 9:03pm
I agree.Judging by some of the artisan cupcakes, that were displayed at the start of the show, I think there's evidence that plenty of skill goes into designing and producing cupcakes.

mwood, May 3, 9:17pm
yepmore for me - I've has it with the judges comments and the fairy godmother flitting about.

mwood, May 3, 11:03pm
I really should get a new key board - one with visible lettersLOL
repost : "yep no more for me - I've had it with the judges comments and the fairy godmother flitting about."

I thought maybe I had missed something - but she didnt get any air time!

Or maybe she decided not to take part.

falcon-hell, May 4, 5:01am
i noticed that last night too, they seem to focus on certain ones way more than others.

tennisfanz, May 4, 5:22am
Loved the twins they were so cool, natural. It was a shame they missed out, they would have been great for entertainment value.

dwyn5, May 4, 5:52am
Hayley I think it was that burnt the top of her loaf cakes - she binned them. I would have cut both in half length-wise, joined both the bottom halves with a filling then iced the whole thing. Can't remember what her theme was or what she produced in the end.

elliehen, May 4, 5:54am
You need to buy a new keyboard if you're genuinely finding it hard to see the letters, although I think you can also buy stickers for your keys ;)

she got baby shower after the other lady swapped with her.
Hayley reminds me of Kerre Woodham-for some reason-i think its the hair.

rainrain1, May 4, 3:08pm
I like that wee Hayley, you could sense the weight lift off her shoulders when the other girl was eliminated.phew!

falcon-hell, May 4, 3:12pm
thats right-i think she was quite intimidated by rose.

krazy_kat, May 5, 4:33am
I watched last week, just to see if they were as bad as last year and the year before.Seriously where do they find these people! Is it because those of us that are any good are actually busy making baking for other people and wouldn't be seen dead on a show like that!!That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it - far to embarrassed to be on TV!But seriously, wouldn't you be embarrassed producing that rubbish on TV!
