SILVERSIDE how long do

carmy2, Apr 3, 2:36pm
i cook this for please? ? what do i put in with it?

margyr, Apr 3, 2:47pm
depends how big it is, i usually cook for 2-3 hours, put it in a pot with some golden syrup, chop a lemon in half put that in too, bring to the boil and then turn down to just a simmer, keep an eye on it and top up the liquid if needed. if you dont have any golden syrup or lemon just cook it without anything.

Almost cover with water, bring to boil then reduce to simmer.

Add golden syrup, malt vinegar, peppercorns and a bay leave or two. After a while drop in an onion, carrots and spuds!

Then appprox 30 mins per 500g

cooked in a slow cooking all day it turns out nice and tender

35-45 minutes per 500gms. I put malt vinegar, brown sugar, cloves, peppercorns and a chopped onion in the boiling water, also the peel of an orange. A nice variation is to slice the cooked corned beef thinly and layer in a baking dish, cover with mashed potatoes and carrots and grate cheese over and bake until cheese browns slightly.

We do that and it's the best way to eat silverside.

I prefer doing it all day on low in a slow cooker.
