buzzy - looks like people like samsnan and all the others have never cooked "for a crowd" and so have no idea - sorry that I brought it up here thinking them . likes of cooks and ellie and others . would know someone to help . obviously not so - so please vote this off before it gets more people into a Xmas tiff . I would not want them to go to the lengths of cutting bits off like those people here:

I have been thinking.
Has the mission approach the army. It sounds like the need is for a logistics exercise, as much as a person who can cook

tinkagirl, Dec 20, 6:53am
I agree, the navy or the army will be your best bet as their cooks are trained to feed the masses.Good Luck

There was an article on the front page of today's Herald about the City Mission and the food parcels they are handing out.It stated that people were turning up from as far away as Takanini and Ranui to get food parcels because they have used up their entitlement of food grants from WINZ.To be honest, none of them shown queuing up looked underfed, in fact most looked overweight in varying degrees. And I said to hubby, if they could afford to get from Takanini to the city, why couldn't they just go and buy some food, the transport must have cost quite a bit.

I don't think so - so why not phone them tomorrow morning - as they will be in a real tiff by now .

uli, Dec 21, 11:39pm
what did they say duckmoon!

buzzy110, Dec 22, 2:51am
If you had read the link it was said that in the past the Army used to help out. There must be some reason why the Army is not helping this year. I hope they have someone by now. I wonder why they didn't make the request via TV news.

by jove, there is still a great deal of work to be done.

Presumably you are of the school that says poverty must be apparent by appearance, ie skeletal and in rags! The Victorians thought that too - hence Poor Relief which almost demanded you had a child die of starvation before they would help.

kuaka, Dec 24, 7:30am
People who are starving rarely look obese - and my comment still stands.Transport costs, whether public or private, are not cheap. It seems ironic to me that they can get themselves from one end of Auckland to the city centre, but they can't afford to buy food.Of course I don't believe everything I read in the newspaper either, because there is nothing journalists like better than exaggerating for the sake of a good story, but even if there is a smidgeon of truth in the article, then I repeat, none of them looked to be underfed, and why couldn't they just go and buy some food instead of spending good money going to get a free handout.

I wonder what is happening today - anyone knows!
Is there an Auckland mission lunch/dinner today!

pickles7, Dec 24, 9:45pm
It will be the calm before the storm, if all the prep was done. uli.

One of the volunteers perhaps!

pickles7, Dec 25, 12:04am
by jingo's, there is still a great deal of work to be done.

pickles7, Dec 25, 12:10am
lol, no not me. uli .you!
My first year OFF, from the madness. Funny how some people look at you when you say, "We are not having Christmas at all, this year." Some folk looked sideways at me, one gave me $3.00, to buy my pussy something. I told him $3.00 should get the giblets, but she likes the neck.

They could start their own Marae Kitchen and leave the Mission doing the good work it does. More the merrier. Why havent they started up their own Marae Kitchen!

punkinthefirst, Dec 25, 1:22am
Who! If you are talking about marae - they usually have a small group of people who are in charge of making sure food is prepared for all their visitors. Some events may have them feeding hundreds of people for days at a time, so the expertise is there.
I'm a retired pakeha chef. I don't have the expertise to run the Mission Christmas lunch, but I recognize those who do!

uli, Dec 25, 4:41am
Well they seemed to have done it :)
And good on them!

pickles7, Dec 25, 6:24am
you got the news fast. uli. inside information!

korbo, Dec 26, 7:43am

uli, Dec 26, 8:27am
I think everybody got a little packet - who knows - it might have been donated stuff. And not all the same.
