Why would anyone from Tauranga spent 1 day out of 4, in Auckland, watching the less fortunate.
I hope he returns next year, prepared to help with the clearing up.
Businesses give, and volunteers help, without judgement.
Shame on him.

cookessentials, Jan 3, 3:49pm
I am sure he didnt come up specially to do this! I tend to agree with him.

vintagekitty, Jan 3, 5:02pm
when we lived in Auckland, we helped out serving at 2 xmas lunches. The gifts were small donated items ie a small age appropriate toy and something like shampoo, talc, razors for the adults.
How do you define what poor is by what people are wearing!, do you expect them to be wearings sacks, barefoot and the children looking like they have walked out from a scene of Oliver!. It is disgusting that those that maybe don't need to be there are, but is this human nature now!, the "take, take, take, and who gives a damn about anyone else".
The foodbank where I volunteer has become more vigilant about those that need opposed to those that use it because they can, which puts those that do in the position of having to explain themselves, which is not fair for them.
Uli you were making a mockery of this (again) using it to point score and put down Ellie and Pam, when you, yourself live closer to Akld than them. Did YOU offer to help out. NO, just did the usual bleating on and on and on.

Just toxic vk.

It is a bit late, to be looking for a replacement,Chef

I hope it all comes together on the day.

We had a Christmas breakup dinner last night. DISCUSTING
50 Adults,
Pork [ tough] heated in gravy.
Beans and carrots mixed cooked to a mush,
Black deep fried pumpkin,
Soggy deep fried potatoes.
Boiled whole potatoes with a seperated; cheese sauce,
Tough broccoli covered in seperated; cheese sauce,
Mushroomes in gravy!,
Crumbed fish, deep fried ! .
Dessert.
2 bought pavs,
a medium bowl of tinned fruit salad A10!,
a bowl of ice cream ,
chocolate brownies,
whipped cream, near to being butter, so much so, it left a greasy feeling in my mouth that made me feel sick.
The desserts ran out, some people had to go with out, no back up.
Never, never again, this was the second chance dining for us, at the same place. Here we are in the fruit bowl of New Zealand.
no cherries,
no strawberries,
no apple sauce.

What the Mission needs at this stage is for a well run Marae kitchen to take it over. Those women have got the whole numbers thing down pat.

No imagination, either pickles.but with that number there must have been a set menu. Where was that. a local restaurant, or the local Club!

uli, Dec 17, 8:58pm
Between pickles and the marae ladies - is there hope for the mission!

There is only 1 week left to get organized - and all the cooks out there haven't even logged in here!

pickles7, Dec 17, 9:09pm
lol .uli .you are "one" are you not. sorry had to be cow,,,, no goat.

pickles7, Dec 17, 9:28pm
It will happen .uli. race you too it. lol. Think you could bring the, Kumera!

kay141, Dec 17, 9:45pm
Go for it you two. I will not be competition.

buzzy110, Dec 17, 9:54pm
I have no idea how to cook for 2000 people so I won't be volunteering but I'd be happy to chip in to help pay for a one way ticket for ellihen's air fare to Auckland on Xmas eve so she can volunteer. I know she was very disappointed that she didn't have a volunteer job at the her local Mayor's do feeding the homeless and deprived members of society.

korbo, Dec 17, 10:02pm
pickles, that food does indeed sound disgusitng.
I agree on your words of fruit bowl of nz.it is becoming less.
will you tell us where it was, certainly wouldnt want to take my family there for a meal.
feel for the mission. i have always wanted to help, maybe one year, NOT to do the cooking tho.

uli, Dec 17, 10:23pm
I have cooked for 180 people in a rest home many years ago - but never overseen minions (which this job sounds like) to cook for 2000 - so over to pickles who has done more catering than I ever have :)

AND I have to say - I am a bit disappointed that nobody is coming forward here for a good cause - after all we all know how to cook the "basics" don't WE!

pickles7, Dec 17, 10:25pm
I don't think so.for me to know. Others were happy, We had a catering business and can be very critical, Some people who don't eat out that much think anything is swell if they did not have to cook it.
It could be we are over critical.

pickles7, Dec 18, 12:34am
This year's menu includes
ham,
chicken,
roast potato and kumara,
beans and carrots,
with jelly and ice cream for dessert,
followed by Christmas cake.

punkinthefirst, Dec 19, 4:39pm
The Mission thing needs a person who can run minions with military precision. I'm not volunteering either! Having 2000 portions ready all at once sounds like a nightmare!

uli, Dec 19, 5:17pm
Not a nightmare really - but more than 200 I have never done LOL - otherwise I would love to do it - what an achievement!

valentino, Dec 19, 5:28pm
Agree Uli.

Have done a Christmas Party for about 400 plus though but 2000 is a real mission and the time involved makes it just beyond me, LOL.

Cheers.

retired, Dec 19, 6:20pm
Sounds like one for the Army or one of the Services!

indy95, Dec 19, 9:01pm
At this rather late stage I agree with you, retired.

samsnan, Dec 19, 9:22pm
I may be wrong but I always thought that all the food was cooked at the Naval base and transported over to the town hall. Would the volunteers be able to carry on when its delivered. I know they have an abundance of people volunteering so surely it wouldnt need a 'Chef' but certainly someone with nouse. I do wonder why it has been left so late.

uli, Dec 19, 11:26pm
Yep - sounds like you ARE wrong LOL :)
And who do you think could fill the job!
Cause it has not been "left late" - but the person couldn't do it in the end - for whatever reason. maybe you need to ring her/him and ask.!

buzzy110, Dec 19, 11:32pm
I think it probably would need a chef or, at the very minimum, someone who has had many years in providing mass food. Nouse is insufficient. To be able to control a team of kitchen workers one needs to know precisely what, when and how, for every little thing, and be able to oversee everything or it will all end in tears.
