Dinner mis-communications - which is worse!

Because in Englad,often, dinner is taken at lunch time ( as in, the main meal of the day) and "tea" was taken in the evening and usually consisted of a light meal of perhaps ribbon sandwiches or crumpets and other small savouries with cake and a cup of tea for "afters" When we lived in England, we either had "dinner" at school ( hence school dinners) or we went home at "dinner time"

When we used to go for a picnic, when I was a child,we took a packed lunch and ate it at dinner time (i.e. 12.30 ish!).

I had never given that a thought until today - it is bizarre!

We always had our big meal in the evening, just a sandwich for dinner and a proper meal for tea!My parents still have their light meal at dinner time and cooked tea at around 6.00 pm.

That's because they would have eaten their main meal in the middle of the day, and I daresay some farmers still do
