Salty mussels

We had steamed mussles for dinner tonite but they were really really salty. We steamed them in white wine, garlic, onion, carrot and butter, then finished off with cream. What would cause them to be salty? They were rinsed and debearded befor cooking.

Fish live in the sea as well, and thats not salty. We added no salt, and these were really salty. We have had mussles plenty of times but they have never been this salty. Maybe it was just where the mussles came from.

If you steamed them open then the shells hold allot of salt water this makes the juice salty. Fish don't have all that salt water coming along for the ride :)
