Im new to this type of icing, making a ladybird cake, is it best to buy and colour the fondant or make from scratch? have found a marshmellow fondant that looks quite easy. Any advice would be much appreciated!

oh buy it and colour it, much easier, although if you have a recipe that looks ok then go for it, have fun making the cake.

thanks yes I think it sounds a bit safer than trying something new the night before a big birthday party! Is it in most supermarkets? have never seen it.

Yep in the supermarket in the baking aisle, make sure you dont get the almond one, and roll it out on cornflour, do you have a peice of dowling that you can roll it up onto to lift to your cake? also if it cracks while putting it on dont panic just have a little bit of egg white and put a tiny bit on the crack and work it back together.

Get the Bakels brand. Its the best and easiest to work with. Spray your bench top with cooking spray and your hands. Knead the icing a bit then roll it out. dont turn it over, just pick it up, spray underneath and put it back down to keep rolling. Put a couple of small pieces in a cup with boiling water and stir to make a glue, brush this on the cake to adhere the icing to the cake. Lift the icing up using the rolling pin and place it on your cake. Rub well with your hands and trim off the excess. We would like to see a pic of the finished cake please.
