i'm making one of those mad hatter type cake and am not sure how to get the fondant shapes to stick to the fondant of the cake. i read on wiltons website that you just need to brush on some water and they will stick. is that correct? has anyone tried?

Yup, water :) Just be careful not to drip water on parts of the fondant you aren't covering (will make it shiny and sticky).You really don't need much

just make a sugar syrup using sugar and water

If you use gin or vodka, the alcohol evaporates quickly and doesn't leave a sticky mess. (I kid you not.... I always use it!)

hahaha i had the same problem last night - came across a website that said to use clear vanilla extract... i used normal vanilla essence and it worked a treat! Thought that was easier than trying to make sugar syrup
