I absolutely love that quote, it speaks volumes and has relevance to me on a personal level.

It's a brilliant one isn't it!

Hi everyone, I don't post much now, mainly because I have got on with my life, I eat what I like when I like and how I like. Sometimes I have a smile when I think, if only Herika could see me sink my teeth into gf sausage or something similar. I do come back in here occassionally and all I see is people throwing bricks at each other, and it totally frustrates me. What i would like is to see more recipes, as after all this is a recipe thread! Thanks for the recipes cookessentials, I'm hungry now.

Yes,sadly it is not the same. I must say though, i have always found herika very polite, unlike some others. It would be nice to get some of the old original posters back too as they have some great ideas. You usually find with alot of the not so pleasant posters that they just love to wind others up and for the most part, I try to ignore them. At times, however, I have no problem in letting them know they have over-stepped the mark - but to them it is water off a ducks back - this is obviously how they lead their lives.
Glad that there are still a few of us "oldies" around with some great recipes, tips and tricks. That's why the old Colonel potter Quote is just so apt for the recipe section.I am fortunate not to suffer with problems with gluten and the like, but i do have friends who do and I know how frustrating it can be to make delicious food that you can enjoy. When the GF books arrive, I shall try and add some more for you.

Will try some of these recipes -Have been GF for a year & lost 12 kgs! Have adapted the family diet, however, miss 7 now looks as if needs to be GF, so will probably put a little more effort into being better at it. But I agree that the cost is the worst part of being GF! although some GF food is just plain nasty!

Thank you all for your kind words they are much appreciated. Great quote cookessentials. This thread was started "just for gluten free recipes" not for continuous ramblings from one person "herika". I have posted pointing out to herika that this is for recipes ONLY and I have asked her to keep to the two threads she started if she wants to lecture people but she replied that she WILL enter this thread if she thinks she has something to offer. Like a previous poster stated not everyone has to be as extreme as she is. It got to the point where no matter what recipe I put up she would enter and contradict anything that she didn't agree with. I have even pointed out to her that she is not qualified to give such advice but she still persists. She has chosen not to follow mainstream medical advice but instead decided to manage her own health through trial and error. In my opinion she is enough to make people give up on a gluten free diet and frighten them half to death.Much of what she writes is the subject of controversy and some even goes against the advice I have received from the Health Board and the Coeliac Society. As cookessentials said what suits one person does not suit another and I choose to believe that we have to credit people with enough intelligence to work out for themselves what they can or cannot eat.

Melford, for me personally, you are the 'face' of how we are choosing to approach a coeliacs lifestyle for our family and our youngest.

She didn't choose her condition.WE didn't choose her condition, nor did we diagnose it, the medical fraternity did that.

We have made the decision that we wish to limit her lifestyle and her diet as little as possible, and differentiate it as little as possible, because at four years old, the pain of even that is hard to bear for a little one.

We try to look at, and focus on what she can have, rather than seeking to unnecessarily limit it.

It seems to me, there are two approaches. There is room for more than one approach. Each approach should be able to respect the other, and not try and impose itself on the other.

I.e, keep to their own threads.

I'm a bit embarrassed here Have had an awful week, and I think my fingers got carried away. But this is a thread about gf and not other intolerances and not specifically about what I can and can't eat. It is about substituting gluten for gluten free food. Yes I know some other things can be hard on tender tummies too, but that doesn't necessarily mean gluten contamination. Cathy

Bacon what bacon do you use. I usually use beehive as it says gluten free on the label. But looking at a pack of Home Brand middle rashers, in the allergen advice it said may contain traces of soy, no mention of gluten. At half the price of beehive is it worth lookng at! I have forever been worried about bacon and hams and always opted for brands that had gf on them.

earthangel4, Jul 8, 3:52am
Hi there made this recipe for lunch today, its devine,so another one for my recipe book

melford, Jul 8, 5:16am
There are several brands of gluten free bacon - I use Verkerks or Beehive

gaspodetwd, Jul 8, 5:24am
We always had beehive but that seems to be problematic now- as does Hellers (which is now GF) - making us think that there is either a problem with cleaning down machinery - or that my two both have a problem with nitrates!Even freedom farms is GF now.

herika, Jul 8, 7:29am
hi cathy manufacturers use other names to hide gluten. For instance instead of putting MSG on the label they will put L-glutamic acid or sodium glutamate or monosodium salt, or HVP, etc etc. Also some products made in the USA call wheat: corn :)

herika, Jul 8, 7:33am
hi gaspodetwd I also have a problem with beehive bacon. I havent had it for a while so dont know what the ingredients are to be able to say which I think could be the cause. I buy locally made bacon now and have been okay with that :)

waimo3, Jul 8, 8:02am
help with food shopping is there a web site that tells you what foods and brands are gluten free

melford, Jul 8, 9:29am
yes it is called mfd.co.nz. On there it lists amongst other bacon that is gluten free verkerks and beehive. We are coeliacs and have no trouble with either of those brands. Also msg is fine for many coeliacs so if it doesn't suit herika (as most things don't seem to) then you are must be extra sensitive.A lot of what you say upsets you doesn't affect a lot of gluten free people

waimo3, Jul 8, 9:37am
thanks for that will have a look will save time shopping. Have made bacon and egg pie today that is GF. Found GF pastry at bin in. The bacon that i used was GF and had no gluten added
