Hi Bev :-). . If anyone would like to save the pages of a thread, have a page of the thread on your screen. . at the top left, click on the word 'File' - then 'Save as' - a box will pop up. . type the name of the thread - use the page number too if you want. . ie: "Firetop thread 1" or any other name, in the 'File name' part, and at the top of the box, click on the little down arrow at the right end of the 'Save in" box. A range of options will come up. . choose where you want to save the thread to - ie. . to your desktop, so you have it readily accessible. Now click on 'save' at the bottom right of the box, and your computer will take a few moments to save that page of the thread (or any internet page you want to save like this) so you have it readily accessible to read through as and when you want. . Repeat for other pages in the thread. . To access, go to where you've saved it, and click/double click on the name you've used, and it will open for you. . Hope this helps...

Not cooking but... ... ... . . I have a little heavy based old teapot without the lid that sits on top of my fire place and it is filled with water and a few drops of lavander, lemon or rosemary oil. makes the house smell lovely. Its my oil burner.

I've done soup a few times and the kids love to cook marshmallows in the firebox. Best done over the embers. Have also done toast using toasting fork.

We have lot power cuts. Soup is about the easiest and quickest, but pretty much anything you do in your slow cooker can be cooked on the fire, it just requires more regular stirring and will take a bit longer

wonder if we can keep this till next winter lol :O)

Thanks for these ideas - might be worth lighting the fire another time or two just to try them out!

Coal range We have a old, now reconditioned coal range and we cook a big pot of rice on it every 2nd night for our dogs. I cook beautiful roasts and fabulous self saucing puddings in it and use it for re heating things like garlic bread. I also cook the potatoes and other veges on the top. The fire is always allight so might as well use it rather than cook in the gas cooker.
