Hi Lisa. . your meals sound delicious. . ... . wonders whether it's worth lighting the fire a few more times! ! ... lol. . There aren't as many coal range's around now - though I think they're available new again. I remember a house where there was a coal range - roasts in the oven, a pot of soup often simmering on top, etc. .

Historical heating/cooking devices. . Many years ago during the transition period from coal ranges being in homes to electricity running everything most new homes had a "Hot Dogge" installed in the kitchen. It was a hot water booster and had a cooking hob on top. Only about 30cm square & maybe 75cm tall they had their oen little insulated nook & chimney. Paper, and any houshold rubbish, wood etc. were burnt in them. They also kept the home warm in winter on very little fuel. A neighbour nearby has one and can boast that they never have to use elect. hot water heating or fail to have a hot meal and drinks when there is a power failure. They were often used for cooking. V:-)

I use our multiburner for everything when its on. Ours is hooked to hotwater as well so we can cook everything you'dcook on top of oven on it, have made a clothes pulley to hang from ceing in front of fire (safe distance) and use this to dry washing, also the normal heating of house on chilly day. Wouldn't be without my multiburner

Hi Everyone *waves Hi to Tracey. . :-)* I've just been looking for new ovens on Trademe - am having trouble finding one of a good size - new ones are so small! And came across this: Auction Number: 193647076 - the epitomy of a fireplace and cooking combination. .
