Google Nigella's Chocolate fruit cake - it is simply devine. It can be made in a 23cm tin and is a good height - from memory, the recipe says 20cm tin but I find this just toooo high. The recipe has prunes as a base - but please don't be put off.It is one of the nicest fruit cakes I've tried.

This recipe was used 20 years ago for our wedding cake, and I have made it each year since as a xmas cake. Can be doubled or tripled as required.
1 c brown sugar 15 oz tin crushed pineapple and the juice 1 lb fruit 1 t baking soda 1 t mixed spice 4 oz butter 2 c plain flour 2 t baking powder 2 eggs - well beaten
Bring to the boil; butter, sugar, pineapple, fruit, baking soda and spice.
Boil for 3 mins. Cool.
Add beaten eggs and mix together.
Add flour and baking powder and mix together.
Cook in moderate oven for 1.5 hours, leave in the oven for 10 mins after cooking.
