Price differences are substantial - ethics aside, what about taste?
Best bang for buck taking into account taste and ethics?

(a) Free Range Chicken for me, though not as often now, money is getting tight, maybe once a fortnight. Making it last by making stock for risotto out of the carcass. I really like the flavour.

My favourite is Inghams family fresh (or something similar)- it is already stuffed and marinated. You just pop it in the oven and you're away. Soooo tasty. I don't do frozen chooks as I find them flavourless unless I'm prepared to put some serious flavourings into them. Prefer fresh. Our local supermarket stopped stocked inghams - that was a bummer and we haven't had them since. :(

I find ingams quite fatty, but it's mostly in the cavity, so part cook or defrost and pull it out. It comes out really easily pulling it with your fingers.
