I put it on our central heating vents...

Or in microwave, and turn on for 1minute on lowest power... then wait 9 minutes, and repeat two or three times (tip from Sophie Grey)

No hot water cupboard here so by the chippie if it's been going but I find as long as you allow extra time if rises anyway even on colder days. If you have trouble getting the yeast to sponge I've been using stainless steel bowls and I fill them with boiling water first on cold days, then tip that out and add the water, yeast etc. Seems to stop the liquid cooling down before the yeast can do it's thing.

An oven that has been warmed for 5 minutes at 50 degrees works, the linen cupboard, a sink with warm water in it and a car in the sun are all good places too.

You will get a much better flavour if you rise it slowly in a cool place or in the fridge for 24 -48 hours.

Agree with David thats what I do.

I just leave mine on the bench with a tea towel over the top until it's done it's thing - can take 1-2 hours depending on how cold/warm the kitchen is.
