In a Xmas pud recipe it calls for 2¼ cups breadcrumbs, freshly made from day-old bread and ¾ cup self-raising flour as being the only 'binders'. Can I replace the breadcrumbs with ground almonds?

Why? The taste, consistency and cost would all be quite different

Adding breadcrumbs gives a lighter texture to the puddings, I always add them to my puddings.

I used to bind mine with egg, finely grated carrot and stout/Guinness

I would imagine the almonds would give the pudding a richer and more buttery flavour and would have thought the fat in the nut mixture would bind as well (if not better) than crumbs - however I am no baker so am not sure you could do a straight substitution. Can you have a trial run?
