MB in Christchurch have openly advertised from the US when it has been so.
Pork is very cheap in the US - on special we could buy butt roasts for as little as $0.99c lb, better cuts for around US$1.09lb. Butt roasts and shoulder roasts are ideal for pulled pork.
Texas Pulled Pork Sandwiches: For 8 1 teaspoon vegetable oil 1 (4 pound) pork shoulder roast 1 cup barbeque sauce 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar 1/2 cup chicken broth 1/4 cup light brown sugar 1 tablespoon prepared yellow mustard 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 1 tablespoon chili powder 1 extra large onion, chopped 2 large cloves garlic, crushed 1 1/2 teaspoons dried thyme
8 hamburger buns, split 2 tablespoons butter, or as needed
Pour the vegetable oil into the bottom of a slow cooker. Place the pork roast into the slow cooker; pour in the barbecue sauce, apple cider vinegar, and chicken broth. Stir in the brown sugar, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, onion, garlic, and thyme. Cover and cook on High until the roast shreds easily with a fork, 5 to 6 hours. [Cook on low for 10-12 hours] Remove the roast from the slow cooker, and shred the meat using two forks. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker, and stir the meat into the juices. Spread the inside of both halves of hamburger buns with butter. Toast the buns, butter side down, in a skillet over medium heat until golden brown. Spoon pork into the toasted buns. . I would often throw in a couple of guajillo chiles as well. Also many would serve Pico de Gallo on the side. Apple cider vinegar is used quite commonly in slow cooking.

Most pork from overseas comes from Denmark or the USA. Mad Butcher and Pak'n'Save regularly label pork as from USA. Never seen anything from China.
However you will have eaten lots of veges from China - not knowing.
Most people only know about Chinese garlic. They do not realize that about half the broccoli, carrots, onions, potatoes, pears (in short most of the "on special" things in Countdown or Pak'n'Save) are actually from China.
Get informed and/or buy from farmers markets where you can talk to the grower - even asking them what sprays or fertilizers they used - or even more dramatic - grow your own!

Have it the traditional way hot in buns, topped with sauce and salad on the side. In wraps, hummus on the base, shredded veges topped with pork & BBQ sauce. Added to a vege fried rice or chop suey, topped on pizza. Added to a leafy green salad with a sesame dressing.
