I have been given a bag of 'beef soup bones' do I brown them first or just use like bacon bones and in the pot with water and veges etc! TIA

Roasting them slowly will give you a better flavour, but it doesn't make too much difference. I'm making bone broth with some leftover roast bones today too.

Roast them first then deglaze your roasting pan with some stock or water.

Either way as both makes for good soup, to roast first gives a richer flavour.

I have the new crockpot where I can brown in it then cook, could I do that overnight or is it better to roast in the oven and how long for! sorry I have never used beef soup bones before although I have used shin on the bone together with a ham hock and just simmered them.

11/2 kg beef bones, 2 carrots diced,2 onions diced,2 stalks celery diced,2 bay leaves, sprig thyme, 2 large stalks parsley,2 teasp salt,6 black pepper corns,6 whole cloves, boiling water.
Pre heat cooker 20 mins place all ing in cover with boiling water cook c/pot or s/cooker 6-7 hours strain cool skim off fat if any. Canfreeze.from joan bishops book.
You can either just put the bones in or roast for a richer flavour first, I'd sprinkle s/p on them brown a bit in your new C/pot then go from there. .
