Peanut Oil shortage

meoldchina, Feb 9, 10:57pm
Back in November last year I noticed that the supermarkets were no longer stocking Peanut Oil. I think it may be because the price of peanuts has shot up since there was a drought in the part of the USA that grows them. Does anybody know of a main street retailer that has Peanut Oil! Countdown and New World don't have any.

I usually get my peanut oil from Moore Wilson here in Wellington for bulk amounts, or the local Chinese supermarket for good quality 2l amounts. Knife brand is very good.

I haven't seen it in supermarkets for a long time.I buy it from Chinese foodmarkets, but you have to read the label carefully as many so called peanut oils are actually a blend with other oils.Knife brand is100% peanut.

Thank you both for that recommendation. I will go to my local Asian supermarkets.

What sort of prices are you paying for the Knife brand!

I can't remember exactly, but it's not cheap.About $8 for a 500 ml bottle.From memory the 2 litre flagons are about $25.
