Just make a madeira cake and add your preferred quantity of poppy seeds.

Lemon and poppy seed cake. 4 tbsp poppy seeds 1/4 c milk Juice of 1/2 a lemon 200g softened butter 1 tbsp lemon zest 1 c caster sugar 3 eggs 21/4 c flour 2 tsp baking powder 1/2 c sour cream or milk Soak poppy seeds in lemon juice and milk for 10 mins. Cream butter, sugar and rind till light . Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Sift flour and bp. Add alternatively with sour cream/milk and poppy seeds. Spoon into 25cm tin, bake 180'c approx 45-50 mins. Ice with lemon icing or a lemon syrup poured over on serving. Can make it orange flavoured instead if liked.

BEST POPPY SEED CAKE 150 grams butter/margarine 1 cup sugar 3 large eggs 1 cup milk 1 1/2 cups flour and B.P. 1 cup ground poppy seeds Lemon peel
Beat whites with 1/2 cup sugar and put aside Beat egg yolks with 1/2 cup sugar and lemon peel Add poppy seeds and milk Add flour and B.P. Add beaten whites Bake at 180 degrees for approximately 30 minutes or till skewer comes out clean.
