rebelprincesz, re the "yellow stuff" - did it have a particular flavoure.g.vanilla or lemon!I'm wondering if it was either a type of custard (Creme Patisserie, maybe) or if lemon-flavoured, a lemon curd filling!

Hope that helps.:-))

rebelprincesz, maybe it was a Barker's product - have a look at:-

http://www.barkers.co.nz/products-shop/ Edited to add that there is a Barker's Lemon and Passionfruit Filling that is thick and would make a good flan filling. It can be found at most supermarkets - have a look at:- http://shop.countdown.co.nz/#url=/Shop/SearchProducts%3Fsear

Mum used to fill hers with cut strawberries and strawberry jelly ( made with less water than usual so that it set without making the sponge soggy - think she cooled it well first before putting on ). Then piped cream around the top edge

i do either a caramel condensed milk, then bananas and whipped cream for a banoffie pie, or mascapone mixed with brandy and sprinkled with choc hail.
