Can anyone recommend a good knive sharpener. No good with a steel so want to buy the best knife sharpener. Electric or manual?
Thanks.

Henckel ( German) make two good knife sharpeners using a ceramic wheel system - twin sharp is the name. There is also a water sharpener that may be suitable for what you want.

Have you bothered to look in the phone book. There is or was a knife sharpener in Tauranga, he also sells knives as well. was off Devonport Rd. Not sure if he is still there as we didn't get time to visit when up there last weekend.

"Hunting and Fishing"sell a good, easy to use electric knife sharpener for $60. Can't see the name of the maker on it.

You still need a steel to keep your blade in good sharp condition between sharpenings. The steel is designed to tidy up the very edge of your knife, not to sharpen it as such. It doesn't take metal off your life like a sharpening system does, so can safely be used regularly, unlike sharpening which should only be done infrequently.

The Hunting & Fishing one is not that good. The motor is not very strong and stops when you apply a little pressure to the knife. The best one I have found is from Stevens Cookware. It has 3 slots, depending on how bad the knife is. Very course to very fine. It cost about $60 but really works and we have found it very good with all our knives. You just pull the knife through the slots a few times, once a week and you will always have sharp knives.
