Is rice bran oil a vegetable oil?

muelenbeckia, Jan 30, 8:50pm
I would like to make a rich moist chocolate cake.

prawn_whiskas, Jan 30, 8:57pm
No its a grain oil - it comes from chemically treating RICE.

But for your purpose if you are happy to use it then it will serve your purpose.

Oooo thank you. Not sure I like my rice bran oil so much now.So I guess it's down to canola oil or sunflower.

Olive oil is good in baking.

I googled info and I read that the taste of olive oil was too strong in a cake.I have no idea myself .so thanks It's back on the list.

Canola or rape seed oil is the same deal its chemically extracted. And unless you are buying cold press sunflower then again. same deal.

If you want the ultimate clean oil for baking it would be Macadamia oil but its $10-13 per 250ml

Buy a good quality extra virgin oil and it will add complexity to your chocolate cake.Village Press Barnea is a mild fruity variety and would be good in a cake.

mmmm maybe I'll try find a choco cake with no oil now (would be an expensive cake) just thought the oil would give it that moistness . may try find a buttermilk one.

Whenever baking says oil I just use butter.I believe olive oil gets toxic when heated so I only ever use it for making salad dressing.Vegetable oils are man made rubbish.
