Do you mean a packet of dried peas, barley, lentils etc?

Put a little oil in a large saucepan, chop an onion and cook gently till soft, add 2 or 3 sticks of chopped celery, 2 or 3 chopped carrots and then about 4 cups of stock or water. Add your dried vegetable packet and simmer for about 45 minutes till vegetables are soft. Salt and pepper can be added at the start or the end. Stir once in a while to stop the soup sticking to the bottom.

You can put any extra vegetables in, like diced potato, and herbs. This is just a very basic method. You'll find precise recipes in a thread which I will look for and bump.

That's the great thing about soup - it's personalised by whatever you have at hand. I also like a couple of cloves of garlic in mine.
