I was wondering if people could give me some ideas as i love sushi and would like to know how to make this at home cheers

I make sushi every day for my lunch. Absolutly love it. I have a sushi maker which i bought from stevens. Fantastic wee machine. I put tuna and advacado in mine and when red capsicums are in season and cheap I add that as well.

Stevens, I'm not familiar with that store is there somewhere else these are sold!

You don't need a machine. They sell the mats in the supermarkets.

is there a particular type of rice that is needed!

medium or short grain. and rice vinegar. my teen boy makes awesome sushi.

I use the machine as im so hopeless using the mats. Cant do it at all. Lol. As above medium or short grain rice. you can also get sushi rice but that is a bit more expensive. I use rice vinager as well.

Sush-Ezi is made by hydraflow industries, the same people who do the Ez-Dry food dehydrator. You can from them online.

Add the vinegar to the cooked rice. Serve the sushi with some soy sauce.

How much are those sushi makers at Stevens!

tam39, Sep 13, 11:02pm
I paid $40.00 for mine 4years ago. Its the best money I have spent. I think they are still the same price.

hey thanks for all the advice and links. I'm off shopping on Thursday for some sushi tools

korbo, Sep 14, 2:06pm
i am sure i saw them at stevens a month ago for $29.95.I have one and make sushi at least once a week. it is so easy in the machine.
you can buy smaller plastic ones on here, or i have seen them at sup.mkt.
Sometimes i have a problem with the rice, and putting too much filling in, but in general great.
I am still a bit confused on using - rice vinegar, or sushi seasoning. are they the same thing, and do you have to add sugar to them.

korbo, Sep 14, 2:06pm
with the sushi maker you can also make lolly cake.

tam39, Sep 14, 2:51pm
Korbo, when my rice is cooked I add rice vinager and/or sushi seasoning. Its fine when i use both and i dont add any sugar. I find you dont need alot and the bottles last for ages.

I use sushi seasoning and rice vinegar OR sugar and rice vinegar, depending on what I have. Avocado and raw salmon are my fav (the tail piece works best for sushi) :)

I dissolve equal amounts of sugar and white vinagar to my rice instead of buying sushi rice, so much cheaper and tastier I put 2TBSP of each to a cup of uncooked rice (obviously after it is cooked. 1 cup uncooked is generally double when cooked) A Japanese friend told me that is what most Japanese use as well.

Most supermarkets have basic make your own sushi kits - hv seen them at Pak n Save.they are usually in the asian food section - contain rolling mat, seaweed sheets, vinegar mix etc.
