pork mince
+chinese mushrooms which you can get (in dried form) from asian shops/local supermarkets - soaked till soft, sliced thinly
+can of water chestnuts (for crunchiness)
+prawns (optional)
+corriander
+pepper, soy sauce, sesame oil, oyster sauce(optional)
mix well.
wrap in fresh wonton skins(from asian shops) / spring roll skins(thawed)
fry in shallow oil.
for the wonton, they are yummy when after shallow frying, to add a good splash of stock/water & cover , for the wontons to soak up the stock.
Likewise , the wontons can be cooked by simply boiling in stock soup.
enjoy!

Has anyone baked, or grilled in an electric grill, the spring rolls once they're wrapped, instead of deep frying? I think they'd be quite crunchy....

obsidianwings, Aug 2, 3:00pm
I have baked and they were nice. I think I may have brushed with a little olive or canola oil though.

wildflower, Aug 2, 10:42pm
Is the last ingredients a sauce for them?

timturtle, Aug 3, 12:15am
Yes, you put into a pot and heat until thicken, the sauce is really nice, and a good red colour

wildflower, Aug 3, 12:20am
Thanks Tim:)

Never made them but your recipe sounds so straight forward if I can find the wrappers here I'll give it a try.

timturtle, Aug 3, 1:58am
This is a really nice and easy recipe. Make sure you only use 1/4 tsp of five spice, it is very strong

wildflower, Aug 3, 11:08pm
Damn tried Pak n Save and Countdown for wonton wrappers but no look, will keep trying but no asian speciality store here.Moore Wilsons still to try though.

Thanks, I'm in Masterton though.

I use my snack toaster to cook mine, giving them a quarter turn while cooking, they are really crunchy and not greasy as with deep frying.

Can you please tell me what Street Mr Yans is in. Thanks.

wildflower, Aug 8, 11:03pm
