alebix, it was a while ago but I easily found poppy seeds at our local (Christchurch) Bin Inn.

i found them at our countdown in the aisle where they have the greggs boxes of herbs and spices

The Greggs boxes are very expensive i.e. $2.50 for 60g. I purchased a 1KG bag from Moore Wilsons for $6.00

They are available at vege shops, I accidentally have heaps of packs, after forgetting I had found them!
